Language is trivial. At least everyone thinks it is. Even nonsensical language...
The native speaking people think they know their native tongue better than anyone else, even if their teachers disagree.
The second language speaking people think they know that second language better than anyone else, even if the native speakers disagree.
And everyone thinks that that everyone else speaks with a terrible accent.
What does it tell us? That there is such thing as second-hand mother tongue. Whether it is the tongue that is second-hand, or something else - you'll have to decide yourself.
